How the Florida Bar is Taking Special Steps in the Mortgage Foreclosure Crisis

The Florida Bar has announced the three pronged approach to protecting the public and to discipline Florida lawyers who let “greed and speed trump fiduciary duty” in the ongoing mortgage foreclosure crisis, according to John Barry, Director of the Florida Bar’s Legal Division.

According to Barry, the Bar has a three-pronged approach that encompasses:

  1. Discipline for lawyers and non-lawyers engaged in foreclosure related unlicensed practice of law.
  2. Cooperating with other local, state and national agencies involved in foreclosure issues.
  3. Educating the public.

The Florida Bar has also offered free on line CLE classes for foreclosure litigation in Florida and has posted information for consumers about workshops, foreclosure information, warnings about various foreclosure related schemes and helpful links.
